It was raining in Shanghai when we arrived at Pudong International Airport, which made the fall weather cooler than usual. Scarves and thick jackets quickly made an appearance. Someone in our group remarked that it was probably still a residue effect of the cloud seeding during the Beijing Olympics in an effort to dissipate the smog. But this did not dampen our excitement to explore Shanghai.

I recently had the pleasure of watching the Andy Lau, Maggie Q, and Sammo Hung film Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon. The film, directed by Daniel Lee, is a re-fictionalized retelling of a part of Chinese history known as the Three Kingdoms Period. During this time, the country we know today was fragmented into the rival realms of the Shu Han, the Cao Wei, and the Dong or Eastern Wu; this state of affairs lasted from roughly 220-280 AD.

Just the facts, folks.

The Large Hadron Collider [LHC] and the proposed International Linear Collider [ILC] are not doomsday machines. Neither machine will bring about the so-called end of the world as we know it. Neither one is expected to spawn planet-devouring black holes.

A few years back, I experienced high blood pressure for the first time.  The stress at work and some personal concerns, fatigue from travelling, and unexpected weight gain all ganged up on me and made me realize that it was time for a lifestyle change.
