Cebu Pacific (CEB) is now encouraging its passengers to carry less baggage by offering an outright fare discount of P200 to customers traveling with no checked-in bags, in a new airfare promotion called “Go Lite Fares”. The airline is also reducing its free baggage allowance (FBA) for all bookings made starting September 2, 2008. CEB will lower its FBA from 20kgs to 15kgs per passenger, except for the Boracay (Caticlan) flights which will still be at 10kg. For bookings made before September 2, CEB will honor the 20kgs FBA. The maximum weight allowed for hand-carried luggage remains at 7kg per passenger, except for Boracay (Caticlan) which is maintained at 5kgs per passenger. Candice Iyog, the airline’s Vice-President for Marketing and Products, says, “We are always looking for ways to reduce the fare paid by our passengers and since we are able to save on fuel when carrying less weight on our flights, we want to reward people who don’t have check-in bags. “A lighter aircraft would burn less fuel so if passengers travel light, our fuel costs would likewise go down and we are able to pass on the savings to our passengers.” The Go Lite discount will apply to all of CEB’s fares, and will be available for domestic and international bookings from September 2 onwards. Aside from introducing the Go Lite fares, CEB will be offering a 20% discount for pre-payment of excess baggage through its website, call center and ticket offices. The discount will be offered in increments of 5kgs. Now in its 13th year, CEB has the youngest aircraft fleet in the Philippines, comprised of 10 A319s, eight A320s, and two ATR72-500 aircraft. |
